70 years after the Holocaust anti Semitism never went away

70 years after the Holocaust anti Semitism never went away

This week is Holocaust Memorial day - as Israel will stand still and remember the 6,000,000 Jews murdered in the Nazi killing machines, it seems as if anti Semitism is going on strong.
We feel it across US campuses where anti Semitism is hiding behind anti Zionism. Where Jewish students are harassed with "Jews Out"eviction notices by Palesinians,
We hear it from celebrities like Mel Gibson which made yet another anti semitic comments, referring to Jews as "Hebes," "oven-dodgers" and "Jewboys" and describing the Holocaust as "mostly a lot of horseshit."
We cry for Jewish children that are killed for being Jewish in France.  We feel sorry for a Jewish man attacked for wearing a kippa in Ukrainia on Passover.
We are shocked to learn that sports fans in Poland can purchasescarves and stickers with the motto “Jews forbidden” right outside the stadium that will host Euro 2012 soccer games.
Each of us remember the Holocaust differently. Music is a powerful way to remember. Below is a beautifully moving song titled in hebrew "Hoomnam" or "Is it true?". It was written by Leah Goldberg in 1943 as the Jewish people in Israel began to learn of the horrors taking place in Nazi controlled Europe. An english version of the hebrew lyrics can be found here courtesy of a fellow blogger.
As opposed to 70 years ago when there was no Jewish state and no one to stand up for the Jewish people - Israel today is standing strong. Help us remember the Holocaust and keep Israel strong. Help us keep the hope alive, the hope that one day anti Semitism will exist no more.
